So I’ve decided my re-entrance into the quilting world is going to be all about simple quilts. Nothing too fancy and complicated. I don’t have the patience for that! I like using fabric from the same line. It saves so much time. This is from Lori Holt’s line, Polka Dot Stitches.
I’ve also decided small quilts are way more fun and far less of a commitment. I’m going to let beautiful fabric designs do the talking for me rather than intricate piecing. I have a deep appreciation for fabric designers.
I’ve also decided I don’t absolutely have to have an end use in mind. I like the look of several quilts rolled up in a basket and maybe that’s where this one will end up. Who knows?
I love the new trend in piecing the backs of quilts. Now we can use what we have instead of ordering more fabric!
These colors almost make me feel like spring, except we’re expecting temperatures in the teens tonight.
And here’s an up-close and personal look at the faux piped binding I started using a few months ago. All rolled up and pressed so nice. It’s kind of a shame to unroll it. Simple to do and makes it possible to completely machine stitch the binding!
See my stitching in the ditch? It isn’t perfect but if you don’t look so close you won’t notice where I was obviously thinking about Paris or something instead of the task at hand. Love the contrast.
On to the next one which I already have pieced and machine quilted except I’m ripping out the machine quilting and redoing it. I never do anything that doesn’t require a rip-out at some point. Seriously.

love your faux piped binding!
Thank you for stopping by, stitchinggrandma!
I really like that! I have recently finished my first ever quilt and am now addicted! I have thought about piecing the backing of the quilt and am so glad you have mentioned it here and done it and think it is a good idea too! I am also with you on having a number of quilts rolled up in a basket, or folded in a tantelising pile, just looking good! I’m glad I found your blog.
Congratulations on your first quilt! As you probably already know, it’s addicting. I love the pieced backs. You’ll find them on a lot of quilts these days. Thanks for stopping by!

I’m planning to include this post as a related article in my blog post today.
Love the colors! If you would prefer I not do that, let me know, and I’ll detach it.
(I’m also following your blog now!
