Ellen, those curtains are absolutely gorgeus! I love the shape of the lower corners. Would you happen to have a description of how to make them? Or do you know if that style has a name? I've tried googling my way to a pattern but I honestly don't know what to search for. :) Thank you so much for this inspiring blog!

this looks great....a friend of mine made me a crocheted doily years ago and rather then just put it in a drawer and forget about it I framed it in a shadow box frame with a pretty piece of wallpaper behind it that matched the color of the frame....she was thrilled when I asked her to sign below the doily on the wallpaper....I wanted her to know all her hours of work were appreciated....when is the baby due?

OMG, I wanted one of these so bad but nope, didn't get one....(I am pretty sure, I think...hmmm). My mothere was amajor seamtress. She made everything from curtinas to fancy dresses for us all that included hand smocking.....so maybe she knew it was really dumb b/c she also could knit up a storm and made gorgeous sweaters. I never saw her hands idle, ever.

Who would've thought that Uncle Goose blocks would be available on Amazon? And what a huge price difference. Bummer. Live and learn, I guess? Love that you were able to get the Elemental blocks - sounds like they could not be more perfect for your son & daughter in law!

It is so much fun to see these patterns from the past...they let me remember how they were the entryway to high fashion, at least for the DIY crowd.

WOW that pattern! I made one of those too! Mine was in that size! And I made it around that time too! I hated how it rode up in the back (I have a long torso), and I got my first experience in wearing a thong! lol.

I am sure you are loving Adobe Illustrator! So much fun to spend time being creative and get to see the vision on the screen!
Your great-niece is a lucky gal to be learning sewing! Her project looks great! I was sewing at 12 too, but making Barbie dolls clothes! I would go to Salvation Army and get a few small pieces of clothes that were cotton and any item that I liked for me, I got a sleeveless shirt one time, saw where it was too tight, and then took it apart, and copied the pattern from the pieces (I was older then). I had a lot of small fabric pieces that worked out well because I had enough to make enough clothes to give out to the little girls in the neighborhood who had Barbies.

Thanks for taking me back to those memories! I think framing your pattern is such a wonderful idea! I wonder if I could find my Prom Dress Vogue pattern?

OH NO, I made that granny gown years ago in flannelette! I also made a costume for my little sister that was just like the bunny one from 'The Christmas Story' (you'll shoot your eye out movie). I used an Empire style gown made from a Vogue pattern for my Prom dress when I went with my then boyfriend in 1967. It was made with white Brocade and an Emerald green coat over it. Was a brave choice for someone learning to sew, but I had help. Then we went to the prom (you know those large plastered curls on top of our heads) and we had a hurricane come through, we were all covered in large rain drops as the rain came pelting down and turned umbrellas inside out! Of course the Emerald green coat was spotted all over! The dress survived OK. Shoes were pumps with a clip on rosette in the front.

Those old Simplicity patterns... I remember going to Wooworths to sit in the chair and look at the pattern book to see what was new. I also bought the kitchen ones for aprons, pot holders and towel tops (to snap after wrapping around the stove oven handle.

Thanks for the memories!

Tammy, both the Organic Cotton Sateen and the Linen-Cotton Canvas are great for draperies. There is a heavier weight Cotton Twill that is hefty but would also work. I wish they would add a cream ground color.

The learning curve is steep (to do a good job) but I've been studying and it's coming along. Daunting for sure! Give it a try. You'll get hooked too!

I love your projects - so full of inspiration, which is what I came here seeking for!!! I wish I could send you some African fabric (just moved home to Nigeria/decorating a new place) - I'm sure you would do awesome things with it! Oh well, if I come your way soon, I'll pop some in the post. Serious. Take care and thanks for reawakening my sewing passion. PS, I also have the newsprint you used to make a bag. I sang an aria the day I found it. Planning to frame a piece!!!!! with red accents, perhaps like the flower you used to decorate (see http://www.kitchenbutterfly.com/2010/01/20/how-to-make-poffertjes-aka-dutch-mini-pancakes/). Thanks.
